Love Is In the Air at Southeast Seattle Senior Center

I’m proud to work with this fabulous team on the Southeast Seattle Senior Center Board.

Dear friends,

I have had the privilege of serving on the board of the Southeast Seattle Senior Center (SESSC) for the past two years now, and it has been quite an amazing experience to see the dedication of all the volunteers, board members and Lynda Greene, the director and her tiny band of hard-working staff, who tirelessly run the center.

As I head into my third year, great changes and challenges are afoot as the center is about to become independent from Sound Generations, the organization that has been administering us.

We feel like we will be in much better shape and it is an exciting (if not a little scary) time, as we must raise a lot of money to keep the center going and hopefully expand our services.

If you are not familiar with SESSC, here’s what it is about:

Firstly, it’s located on the southwest corner of Holly and Rainier and has been around for 51 years! SESSC is a hopping neighborhood activity center, serving Beacon Hill, Skyway, Rainier Valley, Renton and the Central Area, providing social, educational, and health needs for baby boomers and beyond.

Our activities include an extensive exercise program and lots of classes, including computer, dance, jewelry making, art, quilting, weaving and more. We also provide recreational trips, host jazz and other music events & the popular & wacky Rainbow Bingo night, hosted by Sylvia Stayformore and the sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Plus, we provide a low-cost, nutritious hot lunch five days a week, which–for many of the 1,200 seniors served every year–is the only hot meal of the day.

Our Annual Fundraiser is coming up on February 10^th, just in time for Valentines Day! It would be great if you could come, it is a fun event, with good food and wine, great desserts and exciting auction items. Buy tickets here now.

If you can’t come and would be willing to donate a bottle of decent wine or two, that would be fabulous. The wine needs to be a value of $20 or preferably more. We have a mystery wine grab, where folks pay $10 and pick a wine from a mystery bag. Last year we sold 100 bottles for the center.
